Art Psychotherapy Bristol

I am a Bristol based Art Psychotherapist and have been registered for over 15 years. I am registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and the EMDR Association UK.

Approach

I have a trauma focused psychodynamic approach to art psychotherapy, viewing presenting symptoms as a result of traumatic events or past experiences impacting on present functioning. These events could range from loss, bereavement, physical, emotional, psychological or sexual abuse. I have experience in working with many symptoms of trauma including complex trauma and dissociation.

A psychodynamic approach explores how our past, unconscious processes and repeating relational patterns impact us in the present. I use various theories in an integrated manner in my approach to therapy for example attachment theory, object relations theory, Jungian analytic theory, poly-vagal theory, internal family systems, as tools for exploring the inner world  and past experiences, which are hindering present functioning.  Themes will be explored through art, images, metaphor, dream, current and past experiences.

My experience includes working in the voluntary sector with addiction, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, complex trauma and also in statutory services for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.

EMDR Therapy Bristol

I have also completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a specific protocol for processing trauma experiences.
